About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Van, TX, Farmhouse Restaurant offers a genuine taste of American comfort cuisine with a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like a hometown gathering spot. Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast or a satisfying dinner, this family-friendly steakhouse has something to delight every palate.

The menu is a celebration of classic flavors made with care—start your morning with fluffy pancakes, grits accompanied by two eggs over easy and crispy bacon, or a freshly baked homemade cinnamon roll that melts in your mouth. For lunch and dinner, the Farmhouse shines with signature dishes like the tender New York Strip, perfectly grilled salmon, and crispy fried catfish, which is served golden and flaky with their house-made tartar sauce. If you're in the mood for something uniquely Southern, don’t miss the hamburger steak topped with caramelized onions, bell peppers, and savory brown gravy—comfort food taken to the next level.

The farm-to-table feeling is extended to their sides and appetizers: delight in the crispness of fried green beans and fried pickle spears, or savor the refreshing bite of seasoned asparagus. The Southwest egg rolls and mozzarella sticks offer a perfect start to any meal, enticing your taste buds with bold flavors and satisfying textures.

Farmhouse Restaurant’s homemade pies have earned legions of fans, and for good reason. Their “Buttermilk Pecan Oops!” pie is a serendipitous creation packed with pecans, while the Dutch Apple Pie offers a delightful balance of sweet crumb topping and tender fruit beneath. For the chocolate lovers, the Fudge Brownie Nut Pie—served with rich vanilla ice cream and drizzled chocolate syrup—is simply irresistible. These desserts perfectly round out a meal steeped in home cooking tradition.

The dining room itself exudes a cozy, welcoming vibe, where the servers greet you like old friends and the local playlist hums softly in the background, enhancing the relaxed ambiance. Many guests have praised the attentive and warm service, which makes every visit special, whether you’re refueling on a road trip or settling in with family for a hearty meal.

Homey. Great servers and I will be back. I was on my way to Fort Worth and it is right off the interstate. Not you packaged chair. Very local hometown felling and they are glad to see you. You have to try the homemade pies.

Cozy local spot with great service — mixed food experience, but worth a visit I stopped by this family-style restaurant on a Saturday afternoon after noticing it while walking near a truck stop. The location is convenient, with easy parking, and the place was pretty full — clearly popular with locals. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the staff were genuinely polite and welcoming. The whole experience felt homey and relaxed. I ordered a T-bone steak (medium), and while the doneness was perfect, the flavor didn’t really impress me — I’d personally rate it 3/5. The mashed potatoes and sauce were very good, and the grilled vegetables were nice, though limited (only eggplant). Presentation was fine, but I expected a bit more variety and creativity. My friend, on the other hand, had the liver (which he rated 5/5) and the pork chops (4/5). He was very satisfied and said everything tasted great. If I had judged the place solely based on my own dish, I would have given it 3 stars. But seeing how much my friend enjoyed his meal — and considering the friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and fair prices — it’s clear that they do a good job with many of their dishes. So overall, I think a fair rating is 4 stars.

While the other first twelve reviews say get the country fried steak, I opted for the hamburger steak, sweet potato and grilled veggies. Everything was delicious and tasted as a gourmet home cooked meal from Aunt Granny’s farmhouse kitchen. Gabby our waitress was an exceptional highlight to our meal. They have a good and positive choice of music playing!! For a wayfaring pilgrim like myself, this was a good ole meal. Come here if you are hungry, tired or searching for the way…

We ordered the holiday meal for Thanksgiving. It was excellent. The turkey was totally pre-cooked and sliced. It was tender and tasty. The cornbread stuffing was great. The vegetables and rolls were fantastic. This meal was far superior than the meal we got from a chain restaurant last year.

Does that chicken fried steak look good? Well it certainly was, just like everything else! The food was fresh, flavorful and fast with a very friendly staff serving it up! And that was the tallest meringue chocolate pie I have ever seen! These folks know how to do food! So worth the walk from the truck stop!

I love coming to the Farmhouse. The food is good but the service is even better. Once you step inside you will notice The barn on the left, it is an actual barn that was taken apart and rebuilt into the current structure it sits in. To the right is the Farmhouse that was built after. It’s pretty cool!! Don’t leave without getting a slice of their pies! Delicious!
